This is the southeastern outlook from where MacFarland made his home in what is now the Sachem's Head section of Guilford.  Fleeing Pequots swam from this point westward but were cut off by the English, their Narragansett allies, and Uncas.  The sachem among them was slain and his head placed in an oak tree.  The oak tree fell during the 1938 New England hurricane, but the skeletal head had disappeared long before that hurricane.
